I remember not so long ago politicians saying that illegal immigrants filled a gap in the nation's job market by doing the jobs that Americans don't want. Ha! I'd like to hear a politician say that these days. I do not believe that building a fence will stop illegal immigration. We must first remove the incentives to being in America for those who choose not to follow our immigration laws. We must correct the 14th amendment to require the mother of any child to be a citizen before her child can be granted citizenship. We must require a national or state issued ID card. If an illegal immigrant shows up at a hospital emergency room he or she should receive the best care that is provided to all our citizens but if they cannot provide proof of citizenship at discharge, they will get a free escort to the border. I would never suggest that anyone be left to die as was suggested and cheered in a recent Presidential debate. That was a disgraceful moment for all Americans.

Being an American citizen means being a part of the best and most unique culture in the world. For those who legally follow the immigration process and desire to become part of our society they need to be able to communicate in one language. I support the declaration of English as the national language of The United States.

To deal with the illegal immigrant population already in the country I propose that a timeline be set for all illegal immigrants to obtain a common state or national ID card. The current e-Verify program could be expanded or used as a model. Illegal immigrants will be granted American citizenship after being taxed 50% of their income over ten years of a 40 hour work week. They will be required to learn the English language and pass our current citizenship test.
